"Mathematics has its own value and
beauty and the Australian Curriculum's mathematics aims to instil in students an appreciation of the elegance and power of mathematical reasoning.”

Australian Curriculum Mathematics rationale

The mathematics course at Coorparoo Secondary College has been designed to equip students with the necessary skills to learn and navigate in a numerate world, building on and developing concepts from previous years. The goal is for students to have the confidence and means to approach familiar and unfamiliar situations positively and use mathematics and numerical practices to derive the most meaning from those contexts and situations.

In years 7 to 10, the Australian Curriculum for mathematics is being implemented. The content strands are; number and algebra, measurement and geometry, and statistics and probability. The proficiency strands are; understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning. The proficiency strands describe the thinking and doing of mathematics.

In years 11 to 12, authority mathematics A, B and C and the authority-registered prevocational mathematics are offered as subjects for students to study. All of these courses consolidate and build on the mathematics and problem solving skills taught previously.
