Science

 

Through science education, students
are encouraged to develop critical and creative thinking skills as well as scientific knowledge and understandings to assist in making informed decisions about local, national and global issues.

Subjects offered

Years 7, 8, 9 and 10

In years 7, 8, 9 and 10, Coorparoo Secondary College is implementing the australian curriculum for science. The 3 interrelated strands that are covered include science understanding, science as a human endeavour, and science inquiry skills. The four substrands of science understanding are biological sciences, chemical sciences, earth and space sciences and physical sciences.

Year 11 and 12 subjects

Physics

The study of physics provides students with a means of enhancing their understanding of the world around them, a way of achieving useful knowledge and skills and a stepping stone for further study. Key concepts and key ideas are organised under the headings of forces, energy and motion.

Chemistry

In senior chemistry, the understanding of fundamental chemical phenomena is pursued both in the laboratory and classroom. Chemistry encourages the development of knowledge and skills through a variety of learning experiences including practical experience, planned research and investigative tasks.

Biology

Biology is the study of the natural systems of the living world. It is characterised by a view of life as a unique phenomenon with fundamental unity. Biology encourages the development of knowledge and skills through a variety of learning experiences including practical experience, planned research and investigative tasks.
